Siena is the embodiment of a medieval town. Its residents pursued their rivalry with Florence straight into the location of urban planning. Through the entire centuries, they preserved their particular town’s Gothic look, obtained amongst the 12th and fifteenth hundreds of years. During this period the job of Duccio, the Lorenzetti brothers and Simone Martini was to affect the program of Italian and, more generally, European art. The entire town of Siena, built around the Piazza del Campo, had been developed as a work of art that blends in to the surrounding landscape.
